Back To School: Motivation & Productivity

Written By Studycloud

As the summer is beginning to wrap up and students are preparing for the new school year, many students (including myself) are having trouble finding the motivation to finish up summer assignments. I keep asking myself the question, “how did summer go by so quickly?” After a long break, it can be difficult to start academic work again. Luckily, I am here to give you tips on how to obtain motivation for the upcoming school year.

Using A Planner

Students have crazy lives. Balancing assignments, exams, and extracurriculars can be hard! To keep everything intact, having a planner can keep you organized. There are many different planners a student can use. I personally use a physical planner that I purchased at my local grocery store, but there are other options such as digital planners. If you are an artistic person, using a bullet journal may be a good option too!

Rewarding Yourself

If you have assignments to complete but are experiencing a lack of motivation, plan out your tasks for the day, and reward yourself once you are finished. Personally, I plan my productive days with a timetable. In a previous blog that I wrote, “3 Tips For Online Classes” I added an example of a timetable that I created. This method helps you plan each task hour by hour. Once you’ve completed your tasks, take a break and do something that is relaxing. This could be as simple as watching television or even going out with friends!

School Supplies

This tip may only be a personal and fun preference, but when I purchase new pens, pencils, or sticky notes, this motivates me to complete my schoolwork. For example, taking notes seems to be more enjoyable when I’m using colorful highlighters or pens. If this makes you more motivated, then go for it!

Create A Routine

Whether you are more productive during specific times of the day, routines are necessary for productivity. If you’re a morning person, I suggest setting your alarm to an early hour. Waking up early, making your bed, and planning your day can increase motivation. During my quarantined summer, I would often set my alarm for 8:00 am, and start working by 9:00. Establishing a routine can be extremely helpful. By the end of the day, you’ll feel like you were productive and that you have accomplished something!

Work towards your goals, and you’ll get there.
